About the Owner
Shirlyn Myles is the owner and president of SM Marketing Communications, a marketing consulting and public relations firm.
With an illustrious career, Shirlyn retired from the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) in September 2021, culminating a remarkable 14-year tenure as the Community Liaison.
Prior to her time at MoDOT, Shirlyn held influential positions at prominent organizations. She excelled as the Special Events and Marketing Coordinator for the prestigious Annie Malone Children's Service Center. Additionally, she made valuable contributions as the Assistant to the Director of North County CARES, an outreach division of St. Louis Community College. Shirlyn's commitment to education extended to her role as an adjunct instructor in the Continuing Education Department.
Today, Shirlyn imparts her wealth of knowledge and expertise to women and minority-owned businesses, as well as not-for-profit organizations, through her lectures and Ted Talks in Social Media Marketing, Event Planning, and Fundraising.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Shirlyn actively participates in numerous community organizations. She is an esteemed member of the Urban League (UL) Guild St. Louis Chapter, where she brings her insights and expertise to the table. Furthermore, she devoted five years to serving on the Family Week planning committee for Better Family Life. For an impressive duration of 13 years, Shirlyn contributed her expertise to the Diversity Committee for the St. Louis Council of Construction Consumers. She also dedicated over 10 years to the UL Employment Committee, representing government agencies.
Shirlyn's commitment to philanthropy extends to her involvement in various not-for-profit such as the. UL The Whitney M. Young Society - Founder Membership, and board positions with such organizations as the Helping Hurting Hearts Ministries and Immanuel Temple - God With Us.
In recognition of her outstanding achievements, Shirlyn has received several prestigious accolades. These include the 2018 Missouri's Statewide Highway Safety Outreach Award for her instrumental work on the Safer Natural Bridge Initiative campaign, as well as MoDOT's Leadership Award for her exceptional contributions to the same initiative. Additionally, Shirlyn has been honored with the External Civil Rights Inclusion Award for her invaluable efforts in providing back-office development training for women and minority-owned businesses.

Shirlyn holds a Master of Arts in Media Communications and a Bachelor of Arts in Advertising & Marketing Communications from Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri. As a testament to her academic prowess and commitment to excellence, Shirlyn was honored as a member of the esteemed National Honor Society, Phi Theta Kappa, and distinguished herself as an Academic Honor Scholar. These accolades reflect her exceptional dedication and intellectual achievements throughout her academic journey.
